Neil Young Bootleg

I have been trying desperately to find a bootleg of Neil's New 2008 tour and hurrah I have.
I came across one of his Hammersmith Apollo shows (15/03/2008). This is taken straight from the soundboard and the quality is superb and the crowd noises gives a great feel to it. As I said already the set list from this new tour is unreal. I will be seeing him very soon in Malahide castle!

Never been to the festival yet! I thought this year was going to be the electric picnic year. I have grown old of Oxegen not the line up just the atmosphere and attendants. Electric picnic boosts a powerful line-up but i still was disappointed not sure why but it hasn't made me go crazy and steal €240 yet!
Maybe come Friday I will have that urge. My top picks are highlighted in green and i would love to see Bright Eyes and wilco. who knows might see you there.

The Low Down :
"The Scandinavian equivalent of Glastonbury, and established in the same year, Roskilde is famed for its extension beyond the music, despite boasting more than 150 live acts.

Festival-goers are able to enjoy a wide spectrum of activities and alternative entertainment ranging from wall climbing, skating and cinema to more arty pursuits such as book readings and poetry slams.

Around 75,000 revellers attend annually to enjoy a stellar selection of artists with The Flaming Lips, Tiesto and Arctic Monkeys all performing last year. The festival is also a strong supporter of humanitarian causes and it allows ticket holders to camp in the camp building up to the main event".

This is one unreal festival and thanks for the heads up from D (http://www.pygment.com/blog
). Take a look at the Line-up Radiohead & Neil Young!
The trip over looks doable and i will give it serious thought for next year . This festival is a must see at some stage!

The friday night line-up of Morrissey,Beck and the national is one to compete with all festivals so far. I would seriously give the friday a consideration. Im sure as time goes on the line-up will grow and this will be one of the big ones! A Ryan Air cheap flight and A 30 euro day ticket is tempting.

Worth the Investment

I purchased two fantastic albums at the weekend.
The Flaws - Acheving Vagueness
The flaws are an Irish band and are creating quite a stir around music circles. They recently played dolans and have a fantastic energy. The album is a superb listen and will keep you hooked until the end. Check out their home page on my bands page listings.
Muse - HAARP
Muse were no doubt the best live band of 2007. I had the pleasure to see them live at Oxegen twice including last year. They put on some show just for three guys. This album give you a serious insight to the power of muse live.
The album is a live album from wembley in 07 and also includes a DVD of the performance worth the extra 10 euro.

The Strokes Bootleg

I have found a fantastic bootleg!
This is the Strokes live back in 2001 when it was all happening! This is it had made them Indie Legend and they were gigging like no other. This Particular show is from a small (capacity 300) brewpub in Melbourne called The Laundry and the set was broadcast on Australian 3RRR community radio. The Quality is unbelievable and is just a must have for music fans. Download it free with the link below. Enjoy!

THE STROKES
LIVE AT THE LAUNDRY
Fitzroy, Melbourne, AUS - July 2001

Set List :
Intro
Is This It
The Modern Age
Soma
Barely Legal
Someday
Alone, Together
Last Nite
Hard To Explain
New York City Cops

Ceol 08 Go hana mhaith ar fad

I wasn’t in the Paddys weekend mood at all until last night when viewing the classic new series from des bishop “In the name of the Fada”. It follows des around the gaeltacht as he tries to come to grips with the Irish Language with some hilarious moments and also educational moments as my Irish comes flooding back to me. Check out http://www.desbishop.com/
Further to this Language Revival I was given a copy of the new album “Ceol 08”. Ceol 08 features everyday Irish artists such as Declan O’Rourke & The Walls. There hit singles are featured but they are recorded in Irish. For example one track features Mundy Singing Galway Girl in Irish. Ceol 08 isn’t a new concept as there as been albums back as far as 2005. All proceeds collected from the sale of this CD will go directly to Barnardos. Go out and buy it and have a great weekend.
Check out ceol bebo page here
(Sorry for not writing all this in Irish for shame)
Slán!

One of my favourive Irish bands is featured on this album "the Guggenheim Grotto". Their debut album "Waltzing Alone" is fantastic and is one i keeping coming back to. They are due to release their new album sometime soon so keep an eye out.

Gig Watch - Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen tickets go on sale first thing tomorrow morn. Don't be disappointed get up and get them early. Rock Hall Inductee Leonard Cohen Announces First Tour Since 1993 and Ireland is one of his many stops. This is your chance to witness this man and chances like that don't come around too often. He is playing on the 14th/15th of June in the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham on June 14 and 15. Tickets, priced €88.50 to €115.00(On Ticketmaster).
Not familiar with the mans work? i would strongly recommend his album songs from a room.

UL RAG WEEK 08 - Future Kings of Spain

I infiltrated UL Rag week last night. No I don’t meet the requirement of being either a student or a UL student for that matter as I have graduated and become a real life boy now, but I still have the student mentality and would hope that lasts.

Anyways back to the reason of my UL adventure. The future kings of Spain were playing at stables and I must say put on a nice show. The stage was set up outside in the court yard and they played a rip roaring set to a couple of hundred students and one wannabe.
If you don’t know this band by now you don’t get out much to gigs , thess guys are one of Irelands really hard working bands and seem to have a never ending tour.

There music in my opinion is a mash up of smashing pumpkins/radiohead riffs with rage against the machine/ sometimes soft sung lyrics. They have two albums one self titled back in 2003 and a new album this year called Nervousystem. They are gearing up for a long summer of touring by the looks of it and are playing Oxegen and many more up and down the country. Last night made me realize the wealth of unsung Irish bands out there and these guys are worth taking another long look at. Check out the guy’s Bebo page here --> http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=3804092630

The band consists of Dublin based Joey Wilson - Vocals & Guitar, Karl Hussey – Guitar, Anton Hegarty – Bass, Bryan McMahon – Drums (Suffering from a dislocated shoulder last night some man for one man). They play NUI Galway tonight and then Donegal on the 28th of March.
Infiltrating Rag weeks is fun I strongly advise it!

Festival Conundrum Update : Glastonbury

Festival Conundrum Continues yet again......

Name : Glastonbury

Where : Glastonbury, Somerset, England

When : 27th, 28th and 29th June

Headliners : Kings Of Leon, Jay-Z and The Verve.

Announced so far:
Only the headliners announced so far the rest will be announced in June. No doubt this will be a stellar line-up!

When are the tickets on sale :
This Friday (14th March) you have to register with a photo to be able to purchase tickets on April 6th. This guys know how its done and the security is ace. The Tickets will contain your photo and it cuts down on touts.

The Low Down :
I have been to Glastonbury but just to see the town when the festival was not on. I have vowed that i will return for festival season but not yet. Glastonbury as we all know is the mother of all festivals and i think we should all go there at least once. This year is not going to be one of those years but it will happen in the not too distant future. The festival is one of unreal proportions and this field seems to come alive. The music is always top notch and by the looks of things Glastonbury knows how to have a party! It is my dream to end a day at the pyramid stage partying and it will happen some day.

Websites like this make me sick!

Needaticket.ie must have been one of those early risers yesterday morning and bagged themselves a nice number of Neil Young tickets , no wonder they were sold out for cork so quick, these pricks got them.

Selling 80 euro tickets for 240 euro , this cant be right . Its these websites that really annoy me and decent fans cant get tickets. Something has to be done to stop it.

Neil Young Live at last

Neil young is going to be playing two gigs in Ireland, Woohoo!

I thought my luck had ran out when i didn't get tickets for his shows in England and there it was on the radio this morning

"Mr. Young to play 29th of June in Malahide Castle & the 30th of June The marquee in Cork".

I managed to secure Dublin tickets as the cork gig was sold out at 9.10 this morning. The cork gig would have had a great tent feel to it. A perfect spot for Neil and well done to the early risers who snatched them. Anyway I am just pleased I'm getting to see him after all this time of him on my concert wish list. The set list seems to be fantastic and not as draining as some of his previous years tours/set lists. Check out the list from Edinburgh last week

The Last Shadow Puppets

Ever since I have heard the rumours of theses two collaborating I was very intrigued. Who am I talking about, ok here goes:

Alex Turner from “Arctic Monkeys” + Miles Kane from “The Rascals” = “The Last Shadow Puppets”.

This side project has been in motion for quite sometime now and as I said I was intrigued by this idea but I haven’t heard a thing until now . These guys had their first public gig last Tuesday and the results are great, Their first single is out April 14th called The Age of the Understatement. The video of the new single can be found at their site here http://www.theageoftheunderstatement.com/
The album The Age Of The Understatement (May 6th)will follow the single and I can’t wait. The video below is the single at the gig last Tuesday.

More Free Albums - I'm not complaining

They all seem it be at it now. The Charlatans are the newest band to flog their album free online and hurrah I say! I’m a fan of all things free. Again my earlier story of Music is Dead comes in to mind (check out here http://indielimerick.blogspot.com/2008/02/music-is-dead.html )
Giving free stuff your full attention is sometimes hard but believe me this album is genuinely good. According to the band its not a mish mash of b-sides and crap it’s a really good record. The physical non-free version is out sometime in may , why wait and why pay. Download free here http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/2008/download-charlatans-new-album-for-free

Cheers guys!

When are the tickets on sale : This Friday (7th)

The Low Down :
The Oxegen festival is one festival that is dear to my heart. I have been through the highs and lows of this very festival for five years now and each year it gets harder to face the madness. This year I truly believe I won’t attend (Maybe last minute). A one day pass is very likely on the cards. After last years horrible camping muck experience I shall never camp again. When I left my tent in that muddy field last year I vowed I wouldn’t return. The music has never let me down and that is the sole reason I kept returning. Last year was a superb line- up and this year has not let the average music fan down. The Line- up as I already said is very similar to T in the park
The security at the festival is horrible hence the crap camping experience but if you’re willing to bear the muck, sleepless nights, hungoverness, crap food, you will have one hell of a time. Tickets are on sale this Friday but as I said before tickets will be available for any festival on e-bay near the date, so don’t worry about the sell out.

PODCASTS

I haven’t really used the free Podcast’s offered by itunes to their full potential. There are hundreds of Podcasts out there ranging in many areas of subject matter such as politics, comedy, music, talk shows and so on…. At present I use very little Podcast such as Ian Dempsey’s Podcast (Great Gift Grub Sketches) & Ray Foley’s Podcast from Today FM. Also check out “The Ricky Gervais Podcast” if you’re not on the floor laughing there is something wrong. One Podcast that was recommended to me by a friend was “This American Life”. This Podcast tells the stories of many people in many facets of life in America from Chicago Public Radio and will just make the hours fly as you listen to their amazing stories.
Recently I was recommended a Podcast called “NPR – All Songs Considered”. This Amazing Podcast is from a web only radio show in America and they have such an array of talent on their show. The Podcast boosts guest DJ slots from for example Thom Yorke, Tons of Live Concerts ranging from “the Frames” to “the Flaming Lips” and radio shows with superb playlists.
To access these Podcasts go to itunes, press on the purple icon “Podcasts” then on the bottom of the page press “Podcast directory”. This will access the itunes store (Podcasts are all free). Here you will find hundreds of Podcasts, you can use a search and type in for example “NPR – All Songs Considered” and then subscribe to which every one you want. Please let me know if you have found or find any interesting Podcasts.
Happy Listening!
